This year, we honor a milestone in the world of Home Entertainment and gaming collectibles—the 20th anniversary of the very first SteelBook® edition on PS2.
SteelBook® was not just a case; it was a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship that set a new standard for collector’s items.

 

The Beginning of The SteelBook® Story:

“I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey that brought us here.

It all started in 2003 when we received an unexpected call about a new packaging concept called SteelBook®. That same day, Glud and Marstrand (today Envases) reached out to us, and by the next day, they were sitting in our office. The energy was electric, and after extensive negotiations, we struck an exclusive global deal. This marked the beginning of what would become a revolutionary product.

When we launched SteelBook® in late 2003, our vision was bold—to make SteelBook® the ultimate packaging for home entertainment. We dreamed of a world where SteelBook® shelves would be a common sight in stores, and we went all-in on that vision.

In April 2004, Jeanette Sølling and I were en route to London, brainstorming. Jeanette had an idea—a bold one. One single phone call turned the tide, proving just how powerful a simple, direct action can be. Even now, it serves as a reminder of the effectiveness of taking initiative.

As we celebrate two decades of SteelBook®, let’s carry forward that same energy, vision, and determination. Remember, bold moves create history, and the work we do today lays the foundation for the next 20 years.”
